Why AI Might Make People, Especially Children, Less Capable

Artificial Intelligence is everywhere now, shaping how we live, work, and learn. But there’s a hidden cost we don’t talk about enough—how easy access to AI can dull important human skills.

For kids especially, relying on AI assistants and instant answers can chip away at critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. When the solution is always a click away, the deep learning that comes from struggle and exploration doesn’t happen as often.

This isn’t a knock on AI—it’s a powerful tool that can amplify what we do. But like any tool, it requires thoughtful use. We need to encourage kids to ask questions, experiment, and wrestle with problems on their own, not just consume ready-made answers.

Striking a healthy balance between using AI and fostering independent thought is key if we want future generations who can innovate, not just automate.
